Belated Diwali greetings. I was happy to receive the latest Khabbar (Vol. XXII No. 3) on 15th. Oct. Thank you for the same. The piece on naming practices is quite informative. Is there any classification of Konkanis in America based on their native places? I would like to have that analysis if available. Please inform whether there is any organization involving Goan GSBs there with those from other areas. How do the Konkani speaking Christians organize themselves in the States? Please guide me on the above matters. Are you attending the Vishwa Saraswat Sammelan next month?
I would be happy to meet you there.
With personal regards,

Dear Vasanth,
I hope I have beaten your regular analyst Ravi Nayak of Flanders, NJ in compiling this analysis!

Thanks for the Year 2000 Khabbar Mailing List - dated 12/15/99. Here's my analysis for this year:
Of the 1,655 families in the list, we have Konkanis living in 45 states & DC (same as last year). We still do not have any Konkanis living in Hawaii, Wyoming, North Dakota, Montana and Idaho.
Also, we have:
167 Kamat(h)
166 Shenoy,Shenai, Shanbhag
155 Pai
97 Nayak (Naik)
92 Prabhu
73 Rao (u)
61 Bhat(t)
35 Baliga
31 Nadkarni(y)
31 Kini
26 Mal(l)ya, Mallia, Mahale
17 Bhandarkar, Bhandari(y)
11 Hatt(i)angadi(y)
11 Kudva
11 Acharya.
The Kamat(h) families have regained their lead from Shenoy,Shenai, and Shanbhag's. There are 167 families! California still leads with 346 families.
Keep up the good work.

Thanks for your analysis. Ravi Nayak also sent in a similar analysis! I am sure there are Konkanis in those five states and hope someday, we'll discover them! Of the 1,655 mailings, over 100 have returned with no forwarding addresses!!

Dear Vasanth,
Thank you for publishing news and activities of Konkani Sabha in Khabbar (Vol. XXII No. 4). As you know Konkani Sabha is the first Konkani organization in the USA. It is our 25th year and we are going to have a great year. Ugadi (Sansar Padwa) celebration is planned for 22nd of April at Bridgewater Temple. Other events planned are, Summer picnic, Youth gathering, & Diwali function. If there is enough interest (open to all Konkanis in USA & Canada) we will also organize a Golf/Tennis outing during Sept/Oct, and a Cruise to Caribbean during Nov/Dec. I would like to invite Konkanis from other regions to attend Konkani Sabha functions and enjoy the fellowship. Soon we will have our website and I will keep you informed when it is functional. Our contact email address is nbhat@bellatlantic.net or nayak@ibm.net. I can be reached at 610-370-3325. I liked the Khabbar Web site. Excellent work!
Thanks

Ramesh M. Nayak
President, Konkani Sabha
