Dear Konkani family,
I hope all is well with you all.
From Year 2000, Khabbar has gone on-line. Thanks to www.myindia.com Konkani families worldwide can access this electronic version of Khabbar by logging on to www.ekhabbar.com.
The quarterly issues get updated as follows: Have fun surfing the internet and reading eKhabbar. The Advisory Committee of Khabbar has decided neither to put Khabbar Mailing List on the web nor adding email addresses to that List.
If you still need a hard copy of Khabbar, then you will have to pay. See the subscription form (Page 2). A $15.00/year will get you:
NOTE: The new subscription should help in mailing Khabbar through first class mail to the current subscribers rather than the bulk mail. So, if you have paid dues for the current year, then only you will receive the latest issue of Khabbar.
The Advisory Committee of Khabbar wants families to make use of this FREE access to eKhabbar, thereby savingcouple of trees every quarter. Any constructive suggestions, please, email me at
khabbar@hotmail.com.
The American Konkani Association (AKA) and American Midwest Konkani Association (AMKA) are busy preparing for the Millennium Konkani Sammelan (MKS). Check their website: www.konkani2000.com for all the updates about MKS. Keep the first weekend in July of Year 2000 open for this great event. The deadline for the Essay Contest has been extended to April 15, 2000. Believe me, MKS will be an event to remember for ever. Get involved!
The last issue of Khabbar (Vol. XXII No. 4) was mailed to ALL the people in the Year 2000 Khabbar Mailing List. The purpose was to make all the Konkani families aware of the MKS and also to weed out the mailing list. Of that list, over 100 mailings have come back for lack of forwarding addresses!
According to the Kamath family of Kenner, LA, the pressure to find a marrow donor for Mithun has eased for the time being. But, we should all consider registering in the National Marrow Donor Program (800-MARROW2), as it is available free of charge. If it helps to save someone's life, you will be giving a GIFT OF LIFE
Khabbar will always publish appeals for charity free of charge but, can not collect money on behalf of any charity. Families are encouraged to send the money directly to the concerned charities. It is amazing to see so many appeals come to Khabbar on a regular basis. Khabbar firmly believes in helping our people whether it is in India or here. Please, extend your help to the maximum extent. I must congratulate Bhamy Venkatraman Shenoy of Houston for his untiring efforts in promoting education in the poor neighborhoods of Mumbai with Pratham. Pratham is a grass roots organization that promotes education in the slums of cities in India.
In the Quiz front, Khabbar has stood undisputed champion. Only three persons were able to solve the last quarter's quiz! Some people have come up with an excuse of NO time to solve the quiz because of their little kid! Come On. Leave the kid alone and take the challenge!! Let us see how many will be able to solve this quarter's quiz!?!
Almost all the news & articles come-in voluntarily and Khabbar will make every effort to publish all of them. If your articles or news items are sent via email (khabbar@hotmail.com) then it will make the editing job much easier.
I welcome the new Konkani group from Florida to our fold of North American Konkani Associations. This enthusiastic group has started out right. Also, this year Konkani Sabha will be celebrating their 25th Anniversary and the Advisory Committee of Khabbar joins the rest of Konkani community in wishing them allthe success. They have huge plans to celebrate this milestone and hope the North American Konkani community will join them in their festivities. Vasanth |
